Dormers in New Castle

Many dormers have decorations on the side columns that ‘support’ their roofs. These decorations were probably hand made, and unique to each house or group of houses constructed by the same builder at the same time.  For example, 25 and 30 The Strand were both constructed for James McCullough in 1826. Both have the same 6 leaved daisy form of rosette at the top of the columns, and similar reeding.  This pattern differs from that seen on 27-33 the Strand (also owned by McCullough), or xx, or yy The Strand.  These latter two houses were also constructed after the fire of 1824, but for different owners.
